Illinois EPA approves Streator’s sewer project

STREATOR – After the approval from the Illinois Environmental Agency, the city of Streator formally approved a construction bid or their upcoming sewer project. At a special city council meeting Tuesday, a bid was awarded to Operman construction in Pontiac for the Center Street project. A new sanitary and storm sewer main along Center Street from 12th Street to Coal Run Creek and the installation of storm sewers along 9th through 11th streets to separate the storm and sanitary sewers is planned. Assistant City Engineer Jeff Long says at the end of the project the city will receive $300,000 in loan forgiveness. The council also approved a loan from the Illinois EPA for $1.6 million. The project will begin in late August.
