State Police to issue another round of firearm enforcement grants

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Police will be accepting applications until April 17th for grants to local law enforcement agencies interested in combating illegal possession of firearms. The State Police Revocation Enforcement Fund is part of an effort to prevent the illegal possession and use of firearms, firearm-related homicides, and other violent crimes. Law enforcement agencies that are members of the Violent Crime Intelligence Task Force are eligible to apply for funds to conduct enforcement operations for individuals whose Firearm Owner’s Identification Cards have been revoked or suspended. Funding would also help agencies enforce the Firearm Concealed Carry Act and Firearm Dealer License Certification Act. Last year, agencies conducted over 1,000 firearm enforcement checks and placed over 450 individuals into compliance with the FOID card act.
