Cavalier’s Stubler brings home the state crown in individual bowling

O’FALLON — It could be considered a perfect weekend for La Salle-Peru senior Nate Stubler. Well, the senior Cavaliers kegler did have some perfect moments at the IHSA state bowling competition in O’Fallon, when he rolled two perfect 300 games on Friday (back-to-back, mind you) that helped propel him to the individual state title on Saturday evening. Stubler finished a 12-game weekend with a series of 3,116, 308 pins better than the bowler behind him from Collinsville.
Stubler rolled a 269 in his first game on Friday, giving him the individual lead by only three pins, but it was a lead that he would not relinquish all weekend.
Stubler’s series was one for the record books, breaking the record for the all-time state series weekend record set in 2015, which was 3,011. He also broke the record for best individual series score with his 837 (269-268-300) on Friday, and also became just the second person in state history to bowl two 300 games in one weekend.
